How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected?
A monthly visual check, an annual maintenance inspection and tag by a certified technician, an internal examination at six years, and a hydrostatic test at twelve — intervals vary by extinguisher type.
What is the difference between the annual tag and the six-year service?
The annual is an external inspection and tag. The six-year internal requires emptying the extinguisher, inspecting it inside and recharging it. Both are required; only one is visible on the tag.
Do I have the right extinguishers in the right places?
Placement, travel distance and type are all specified per code, and they are among the most common things we correct — particularly K-class in kitchens and the right class near electrical equipment.
Can you manage extinguishers across multiple sites?
Yes. Multi-site extinguisher programs run on one calendar, with the reports for each building kept together.
What's on a fire extinguisher inspection checklist?
For the monthly visual: gauge pressure in range, nothing blocking access to the unit, and the pin and tamper seal intact — the three items code requires and expects logged. The annual adds a full maintenance check by a certified technician, a look at placement and travel distance against the hazard it protects, and a new tag.
